Tax and legal update
As we head into the new tax year, Carla Rossouw, tax lead at Allan Gray, will unpack the impact of the 2021 Budget Speech. She will be joined by senior legal adviser, Jaya Leibowitz, and Product Development manager, Shaun Duddy, who will discuss the most recent legal and regulatory developments.
Carla joined Allan Gray as an offshore accountant in 2006 and is currently the lead of the Tax team. She has an Honours degree in Management Accounting, a Higher Diploma in Tax Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning, all from Stellenbosch University.
Jaya joined Allan Gray in 2016 and is a legal adviser in the Retail Legal team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws degree, both from the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. Jaya was admitted as an attorney of the Gauteng High Court in 2014 and is a CFP® professional.
Shaun joined Allan Gray in 2010 as a business analyst in Product Development and he is currently a senior manager in this team. He holds a Bachelor of Business Science in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town.
Levelling up the future of the advice profession
As a new independent financial adviser coming into the industry, establishing a foothold is no easy feat. Wealth Creed director, Gugu Sidaki, and WealthUp co-founder, Louis van der Merwe, will share insights into the core principles they have applied in building their careers.
Tyrone joined Allan Gray in 2006 and is a specialist in Retail Distribution, focusing on strategic objectives for our independent financial adviser channel. He holds a BCom from UCT and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from Stellenbosch University. He is also a CFP® professional.
Gugu is the director of Wealth Creed. She started her career in stockbroking before moving into wealth management. She holds a BCom in Economics from UP, an Honours in Investments from UJ, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from UFS. She is also a CFP® professional.
Louis is the co-founder and director of WealthUp (Pty) Ltd, a Cape Town-based Financial Planning Practice. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Stellenbosch. Louis is also a CFP® professional.
Orbis Global Balanced Fund: A tour of the portfolio
Alec Cutler and Matthew Spencer from Orbis will take us on a tour of the Orbis Global Balanced Fund’s portfolio and discuss the pockets of opportunity and holdings they are most enthusiastic about. They will also share insight into how they are positioning the Fund in this environment. This presentation will be followed by a live Q&A session.
Alec joined Orbis in 2004. He is a member of the Bermuda-based Multi-Asset Investment team and is responsible for the Orbis Global Balanced Strategy. Alec holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Naval Architecture from the United States Naval Academy and a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
Matthew joined Orbis in 2008 and heads the team of Investment Counsellors, which is responsible for servicing Orbis’ institutional clients and investment consultants. He also sits on the firm’s Operations Council. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Accounting degree from Stellenbosch University, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a CFA® charterholder.
