GAP trainees rotate through four to six business areas during the 18 to 24-month period spent at Allan Gray. This role gives trainees opportunities to solve complex, real-world business problems across diverse projects and build strong working relationships with analysts and leaders within the business.

Frequently asked questions
GAP is aimed at high‑performing, independent‑minded final‑year South African students completing undergraduate or postgraduate studies in fields such as Finance, Economics, Investments, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or Actuarial Science.
You must have achieved 80% or higher in English and pure Mathematics in your National Senior Certificate and maintained a minimum GPA of 75% in your degree.
First, it is important that you meet our minimum qualifying criteria. Successful GAP candidates are curious, analytical thinkers who communicate clearly, enjoy problem‑solving, work well with others and take personal accountability for working toward their goals. It is also an advantage if you are adaptable and passionate about the world of investments.
GAP trainees rotate through up to six business areas – including Investments, Institutional Clients, Retail Product Development, Retail Client Experience and Retail Operations Analytics – with eligibility to rotate to our offshore partner Orbis’ London office. Each space presents a chance to take on important tasks, research and analysis of live business challenges.
Yes. If you are selected to be a GAP trainee and you live more than 100 kilometres outside Cape Town, you qualify for relocation support. Travel and accommodation arrangements will be made to help you find your feet as you start the Programme at our office in Cape Town. We will provide more information on how this works during the onboarding process.
